Greensburg, KS Tornado Anniversary Video

This upcoming Sunday, May 4th, will mark the 1 year anniversary of the violent tornado that destroyed nearly 95% of the town and claimed 13 lives. Although 13 lives were lost, it was miraculous that so many survived. We feel strongly that this was in part by flawless coordination between the National Weather Service in Dodge City, including Mike Umscheid who issued the rare "tornado emergency" for the town of Greensburg, storm chasers and spotters, media outlets and emergency personnel. Had this happened 30 years ago, it would have been undoubtedly worse and catastrophic.

Many of the Greensburg residents we have spoken with over the last year, have told us that they have a plan for tornadoes and take severe seriously. If only everyone that has ever been affected by severe weather could have been as prepared as Greensburg, a lot more lives could have been saved. Weather radios are like smoke alarms in tornado alley, everyone has one.

Darin and I will be in Greensburg on Saturday and Sunday to help sell Storms of 2007 Charity DVD's which has raised almost $10,000 for the charity Greensburg Greentown. Darin and I helped organize Project Greensburg, which this charity DVD has been contributing to. There are tons of activities going on this weekend in Greensburg, including CBS' "The Early Show" broadcasting there all week, the band "REO Speedwagon," and President Bush will be speaking to the Greensburg High school graduates!
